Yes, Shell and I have cooked up an all new position for our City Warriors - the Moonguard!
What is a Moonguard?
Basically, a guard for the sacred Moonecho.
What are the duties of a Moonguard?
Moonguards, as their name implies, guard and protect the Moonecho site.
They are also charged with watching out for dangers during Medicine Cat Meetings and Leadership ceremonies.
Reports are given at each Gathering over any disturbances or dangers around the Moonecho.
How do the Moonguards work?
Each clan possesses two Moonguards - it was thought that asking a cat to spend all their time away from their clan would cause problems, so each full-moon at the Gathering the two guards swap. At any one time one Moonguard will be living at camp and one at Moonecho.
Patrols are often sent, usually every few days, to exchange news or important updates on clan life to the Moonguard of a set clan. These patrols are usually led by the off-duty Moonguard, as they know the territory best, and can remain in contact with the other Moonguard of their clan.
There is only ever one Moonguard apprentice per clan. To embark on their life of half-and-halves, they are shared between both Moonguards of their clan. Time is spent both in-camp learning usual hunting and fighting techniques and at Moonecho.
What traits must a Moonguard possess?
Moonguards much first and foremost be able to at least co-operate with rival clan members. Their duty remains to their clan, but like medicine cats, they are viewed as somewhat above the normal clan rivalries. They need to be able to co-operate to do their job.
Moonguards must be self-sufficient to a degree. At best they have three other cats to rely on instead of an entire clan - only exceptionally dedicated hunters and fighters have any hope of being a good Moonguard.
How do I become a Moonguard?
Becoming a Moonguard is not a position to be entered into lightly. Duty to protect Moonecho always comes first - this means a significant amount of time away from friends, mates and kits.
Moonguard Apprentices are chosen with uttmost of care by Clan leaders, with input from deputies, Medicine Cats and existing Moonguards.
