The first gleam of dawn on the horizon made the fur of the Bengal tom sitting on the crest of the hill shine. It was an effect you had to see to fully understand, more so than the subtle gleam many cats had in good light. Falconwing's fur seemed laced with diamonds when the light hit it just right, rippling like light over the water's surface.
He was watching over the camp, and also waiting for the party from the Gathering to return. Falconwing himself, still new to the clan, had not yet gone to a Gathering, and he had little wish to with how some other clanners reacted meeting him on border patrols. It must have spread like wildfire through the Clans that Hillclan had let him a loner tom - rogue, he'd already heard once or twice. But this was his life now, and he was in every way devoted to his beloved Bronzeleaf. And so he waited for the leader's return, wondering how the Gathering had gone.

Opaquepaw stifled a yawn, watching the sun slowly pole its head from under the horizon. Her emerald green eyes seemed to dance with delight, morning was always her most treasured time of the day. Padding into camp to find some breakfast, she caught sight of Falconwing, a newcomer to the camp. "Morning, Falconwing!" she mewed, making her way over toward him, "How're you doing?"

Falconwing's head swung around to the other cat and he flashed a brief, uncertain smile. His immediately came up blank with the name of the ginger she-cat and frowned slightly, trying to remember it. "Hey. Not bad." He murmured in his usual gruff way, not really giving anything away. But he had promised Bronzeleaf he would make an effort to be social, and tried a polite flick of his ears. "Andyou?"

Opaquepaw replied back with a smile, "I'm doing great, thank you!" She could sense Falconwing was tense, maybe he just wasn't used to company. But, he did have Bronzeleaf, so he must know at least a little about making conversation. Gazing out at the horizon, she nearly lost her breath at the beauty of the morning sun. "Its so pretty to watch, it bring you back down to Earth, you know?"

Falconwing shifted a little uncomfortably. "Uh, I was actually here waiting to hear how the Gathering went. Bronzestar and the others aren't back yet." He admitted, though he was worried he didn't let it reflect in his eyes or expression.

"Oh. Well I'm sure they'll be back soon!" She sighed, being socially awkward was her specialty. Her whiskers twitched slightly, her eyes caught movement in the distance. "I can't tell, but does that look like them in the distance?"
