Blastpaw padded confidently into the den. Behind him he dragged the body of a large swan, the swan that had attacked him and two strangers. "Hey guys, are you here? Someone's hurt." he called, hoping there was a medicine cat nearby.

((OOC| Thanks for making the thread Peo )) The rich flash of red from deeper inside the den betrayed the presence of the medicine apprentice Phoenixpaw, who quickly padded to the forefront of the den when she spotted Blastpaw, the swan, and possibly the biggest pair of cats she'd ever laid eyes on entered the den. Her green eyes registered a flash of surprise - now there was something you didn't see everyday. Lion, the big male Maine Coon, was supporting his beloved and very heavily pregnant mate Sunny on his ample shoulder. Her shoulder streamed with bright crimson blood. Phoenixpaw, ignoring for now the swan and the kittypet scent, bounded forward briskly. "Let's get some cobwebs on that. Lie in this nest, please." Instructed the apprentice, hoping that one of the full medicine cats was around. Sunny, who was weakening terribly from the loss of blood, half lay and half collapsed down. Phoenixpaw - showing no fear of Lion who towered over her by more than twice the young she-cat's own height - immediately placed a large pawful of cobwebs over the wound. Noticing how they tended to slip from the shoulder, she thought fast, and used some more to wrap around the shoulder to hold it in place.

(OOC: NP!)
The red tabby tilted his head to the side, watching Phoenixpaw work with his brow furrowed in concentration. The ways of a medicine cat were completely unknown to him, but he had no desire to learn. It was just...Strange, that was all. The mystic ways of medicine were just that, mystical.
"So...S'at gonna help her get better?" he asked, moving up on Phoenixpaw's side, not realizing if he was getting in the way.

Dragonmoon had been curled up in her nest at the back of the hollow remains of what had once been a branch that were now the Medicine Den. The colour-point she-cat didn't leave the Den much - even the gentle climb up to the Den was enough to cause her pain at times. Her mentor, Sunfeather, still hadn't returned, and it was starting to worry her. But, with her mentor missing for the moment, of course it fell to her to keep an eye on things.
She lifted her head as Blastpaw brought in an injured, pregnant she-cat and what seemed to be her mate. The Apprentice Head Medicine Cat pushed herself to her paws, her twisted, useless hindleg that was permanently held against her stomach - due to the bone not healing properly - only twitching slightly at the movement, and limped over to the cats. Her blue eyes flicked quickly over the injured she-cat, before she looked up at her large mate, "How far along is her pregnancy?" she asked, before her blue eyes flicked to Blastpaw, "What happened?"

Phoenixpaw gave the red apprentice a light but firm nudge to his side, guiding him out of the way. "It will." she stated calmly, relief on her face as she glanced up to Dragonmoon. She was so capable and experienced, she immediately felt more confident.
When the male Maine spoke the rumble of it was like rocks rolling together. "The swan attacked her. She has but days to go before her kitting." He explained, ignoring his own discomforts - a scratch along one foreleg, his soaking fur plastered to his sides - in favour of staying at his mate's side, opposite the one Phoenixpaw was working on.

Dragonmoon nodded, her expression serious. "Alright, Phoenixpaw, what do we use to protect against infection?" she asked, deciding that since her mentor wasn't present, she most as well quiz the apprentice while she was under pressure. Days... This stress could send her into early labor. Thank StarClan the kits won't be too early should it come to that. Her blue eyes swept over the big tom, whiskers twitching. "Start drying yourself off before you get ill. Your mate doesn't need the added stress of worrying about your health."

Phoennixpaw narrowed her eyes in concentration. "Marigold." She replied after a beat, eyes shining as she looked up at Dragonmoon. "Should I get some?" If I can remember which one it is!
If the big Maine coon was put off by taking orders from the much smaller wildcat, he didn't show it. He reacted to the authority in her voice, drawing back and starting to groom the water from his fur with hasty laps.

Dragonmoon nodded at the other Apprentice, "Quickly." She glanced at the big tom once more before gently pawing the she-cat's shoulder. Carefully, she removed the cobwebs from Sunny's shoulder and started to clean some of the blood from the wound so she could tell just how deep it was. Between licks, her blue eyes would flick to the queen's sides, checking for any contractions.

Blastpaw backed out of the way, watching the medicine cats work with mild interest on his face. He started to shiver a bit and went to groom the water out of his own fur.
"Oh!" He jumped up suddenly. "You guys hungry? I could bring you the swan to eat. I put it on the fresh-kill pile."

Sunny's sides heaved, though she was breathing heavily after her ordeal, she was showing no signs of her contractions yet. The wound in her shoulder was deep - the swan's powerful beak had pierced the muscle there - but it was not a large injury and the bleeding was slowing the the clan cat's attention.
Phoenixpaw didn't have too much trouble finding the marigold - the flowers were still bright goldeny yellow. She brought some over and began to chew them to a pulp rapidly. She didn't apply them though, anxiously glancing up at Dragonmoon to make sure she'd done it right.
Lion flicked the last few drops of water from his coat, leaving a puddle on the den floor. Anxiety was the only thing that was in his eyes, but as a sudden roaring from the foot of the oak started to echo up, his tufted ears flicked. "Damn, that sounds like Tiger." He cast an agonized glance at Sunny, obviously not wanting to leave her.

Dragonmoon's blue eyes flicked quickly over the deep wound, trying to see just how much muscle had been torn. She flicked her ears, turning to look at the pulp, nodding quickly. "That's right, now put it on the wound for me." she instructed, straightening up. She'd do what she could now, then take a proper look at the wound later. Her tail lashed slightly, gaze flicking to the opening of the den. "Whoever it is, go calm them down, before they get themselves in a fight they can't win." she muttered, blue eyes flicking to the big tom, "Your mate will be fine, if you know whoever's making that ruckus, go calm them down."

Lion hesitated briefly, but there was something in him that wanted to do what Dragonmoon said. He inched towards the entrance, glanced at his paws, then licked Sunny briefly on her cheek. He slipped out the entrance, letting out a startled mew as he nearly collided with a white she-cat on her way down the tree. She paused for a moment, angled her ears down towards the ground, then nudged Lion's shoulder. "I think you ought to come with me."
Phoenixpaw very carefully licked the pulp onto Sunny's wound. The she-cat flinched, and Phoenixopaw felt a tremor run through her shoulders. She hoped she hadn't hurt her too much.
Sunny gave a weak gasp. "That feels... a little better. Less.. burning. Pain." she murmured, blinking gratefully at the pair.

Dragonmoon watched Lion leave, waving her tail to Opaleye before her attention returned to Sunny and Phoenixpaw. She watched the other Apprentice, making sure the pulp covered the entire wound, before her eyes flicked to the weak she-cat's features. "It would be a good idea to stay here for awhile, just while your shoulder heals. It's best not to stretch or walk around to much while it heals. Rest, that's pretty much all you'll need now. Build your strength for when the kits come." the colour-point advised, limping over to her herb stock, returning with some cobwebs and poppy seeds. Nudging the seeds, she instructed, "Eat these." Before beginning to gently place the cobwebs over her wound.

Sunny licked up the poppy seeds. Starting to grow drowsy from the dose and her activities that day, she blinked gratefully at Dragonmoon, and Phoenixpaw who had retreated to sit quietly to one side. "You have no idea how thankful I am. You are so kind... my kits... thank you..." Her gentle eyes began to close.
Opaleye padded quietly into the den. "Wonderful work as always." She nodded to Dragonmoon, then Phoenixpaw. The red and white apprentice ducked her head shyly, pleased. Opaleye moved inside, but there was tension in her shoulders - and a moment later she was followed by two cats. One was Lion, and one was a paler-furred but equally large copy with narrower eyes. "What did you do to Sunny?" He demanded the moment he saw her, but Lion nudged him firmly. "Brother! They saved her life, is what they did."

Dragonmoon flicked Sunny's side with her tail, carefully making sure the cobwebs stayed in place. "It's our job, no need to thank us." she murmured softly, watching the queen drift off to sleep. The colour-point's ears twitched, her blue eyes flicking up to see Opaleye. She dipped her head to the deputy, shrugging, "Sunfeather could have done better." she muttered softly, more to herself. Where was her mentor?!
Her blue eyes flicked to Lion, tilting her head at the tense tom with him. "Sunny was attacked by a swan. Our Warriors saved her and brought her here for us to patch up." she explained simply, silver tail flicking.

"Lion and I killed the swan." Blastpaw puffed his chest out proudly, kinking his tail over his head. In his mind the battle had been much more epic, his own deeds more heroic. But he was never one for modesty. "We dragged the thing into the water and wrestled it down!" The ginger tabby swiped playfully at the air.

Phoenixpaw overheard Dragonmoon's muttered words. Hesitantly, she took a step closer and nosed at the older apprentice. She guessed she was worried about her mentor. "She'll come back. I beleive she will." She murmured.
Lion shot Blastpaw a friendly glance. Half because the young cat's energy impressed him, half to show his brother these cats meant no harm, he trotted over and flicked at the apprentice with his tail. "You fought bravely." He rumbled, while Tiger scowled from the entrance, but looked less hostile at the very least.
Opaleye purred and nodded to Blastpaw. "You did well." she praised, then her oddeyed gaze went thoughtfully to the Maine family, lingering on Sunny and her swollen belly. She came to sit by Lion and Blastpaw. "Blastpaw is an apprentice - in training to learn the ways of a warrior." she explained to the red and white tom, watching his ears prick up in interest. "We live by the warrior code and care for the clan as a whole." Her head swivilled to the door at the sound of a faint snort, but Tiger kept his jaw shut. The distinctive black stripe that ran over his face made him look like he was glaring all the time.
Sunny opened her eye a slit, revealing she hadn't fallen asleep yet. "Sounds like a noble way to live." she murmured, and Lion bent to lick her ears soothing. Tiger looked away, out at the branches around the den outside. Lion sighed and looked up. "We used to live as housecats, but there was... a fire. Our mistress was still inside." His voice was flat, with no trace of emotion.
Tiger sprang to his paws and growled. "She wasn't the only one!" He snapped at his brother, then stalked outside. Opaleye frowned lightly as she watched him. Lion sighed, explaining for the clan cat's benefit. "His mate... we were too late to get her out."

Dragonmoon cast a smile at the young Apprentice, lightly flicking her ears with her tail, but she remained silent. In truth, she had given up on her mentor returning, yet worry still nagged at her mind. Where was she? Was she safe? What had she wanted to talk about after the last Gathering?
"Not only did he help defeat the swan, he dragged it back to camp from the looks of things, didn't you, Blastpaw?" the she-cat chuckled, smiling at the apprentice.
The cream and silver colour-point looked at the three ex-kittypets, studying each. She was about to add more to Opaleye's statement, before Lion begun talking, and Tiger snapped. She sighed, shoulders slumping slightly. This family would be fun... Her blue eyes flicked to Lion and Sunny. A mate was a hard thing to loose, she knew that, though she'd never had one herself - every now and then, though, you'd get the odd tom or she-cat who'd lost their mate and was terribly devastated by it. Her own Father was an example.

Blastpaw swelled with pride at Opaleye's praise. Somehow he felt it was an honor to be used as an example for these kittypets. He stood even a little taller, if it were possible. "Yeah look, I brought the swan all the way back to camp! I bet it's tasty." The ginger and white apprentice prodded the white bird with one paw.
At the news of a fire, Blastpaw's eyes widened. "Wow, a fire...That's so sad..." As scary as Blastpaw had been told fires were, he wished he could see one. Wouldn't that be cool?

Opaleye gave a short purr and flicked the apprentice's shoulder with her snowy tailtip. "Come then, let me help you being that to the freshkill pile. It looks like Sunny needs her rest."
Lion took a step forward and dipped his head slightly, looking ffom Dragonmoon to Opaleye. "May I stay with her?" He requested respectfully.
