((OOC| Cats already in threads are allowed to enter here too, everyone who is able please attend!))
Goldstar paused before his usual leap up to the Highroot. His gaze flicked over Rootpelt, sitting weary and looking her age for once, nearby. To the medicine cats - notably absent his sister Sunfetaher, another cause for concern. To the warriors around the camp, going about their usual lives... except today, everything would change.
He leaped.
"All cats old enough to catch their own prey, gather here beneath the Highroot for a clan meeting!"
Opaleye, with her deaf sister Skyswan beside her, emerged down from the Old Oak. Skyswan nervously pressed towards the back of the group, and Opaleye sat beside her. Silvershine paused for a few words with the white warrior before heading towards the front and sitting down. Her brother Dawnfrost joined her, looking eager - he had already guessed old Rootpelt's retirement had finally come. The sturdy silver brothers Jetfire and Ironhide came in with a rabbit and a squirrel, depositing them on the freshkill pile, before joining in.

Dragonmoon sat close to the Highroot, running a paw over her ears. Her blue eyes flicked to the soon-to-be Medicine Cat Apprentice, before she smiled and glanced towards old Rootpelt. The colour-point waved her tail in greeting, deciding to speak with the old Deputy after the ceremonies - it wouldn't do any harm to see if Rootpelt was experiencing any discomfort.
White fur caught the Head Medicine Cat Apprentice's attention, and she glanced towards the Old Oak to see Opaleye and Skyswan. StarClan watch over the both of you.

Though she was still a kit, the young cat didn't want to sit in the nursery while the bigger cats had a meeting. So bounding outside she weaved her way through the cats to sit next to the Highroot, her tail waving high, her eyes alight with excitment. Maybe today she'd be made an apprentice? Even though she highly doubted it, it was probably somthing more important like making an apprentice into a warrior.
She sighed heavily, oh well it was for the best. But soon she would be an apprentice. She grinned, not upset anymore as she turned her bright gaze up toward Goldstar.

Thicketpaw bounded up to the Highroot the moment she saw Goldstar padding toward it. She had found a place to sit close to the tree by the time he opened his mouth for the announcement. Excitement coursed through her blood. She knew full well that she would have nothing directly to do with the ceremony, though she was waiting with bated breath for her warrior ceremony. But the prophecy she had heard about had excited her more than frightened her. The thought of change and novelty filled her with joy and she couldn't wait to see what would come of it. The meeting had to have something to do with some of those proposed great changes, right?
Pebblespot slunk to the tree beside his elder mother, Jumblescar. He had no desire to see a change in anything. He tried to forget about the prophecy, but it tended to spring up all the time, no matter which cat he spoke to. He hoped everything was okay, his eyes full of worry.

Goldstar spoke heavily as he looked down upon so many faces, eager and anticipating and weary and most of all, familiar. "Rootpelt - step forward please."
The elderly brown she-cat rose and moved up to the Highroot stiffly, looking Goldstar square in his eyes.
"Is it your wish to give up your name as a warrior, and your position as deputy, and go and join the elders?" He waited to listen to the surprised murmur he knew about accompany this revelation.
Rootpelt had always known, of course, it had never been her destiny to lead the clan after Goldstar's passing. But even this loyal old cat hesitated before answering. "It is." she said at last, voice crackling slight - age or emotion, impossible to determine.
"Your clan honors you and the service you have given in our names. You have been a loyal and dependable deputy. I call upon Starclan to give you many seasons of rest.
I say these words before Rootpelt, so she can see and approve my choice. Opaleye will be the new deputy of Rootclan." Although, of course, Rootpelt had already done that, he though with a smile, watching as pure shock spread across the face of the white warrior with the odd eyes.

Always interested in all the ongoings of the clan, even Riverkit turned shocked eyes toward Opaleye. Rootpelt was retiring and going to join the elders and Opaleye was becoming deputy. Tilting her small head, Riverkit muled this over. It wasn't that Opaleye wasn't a good choice, but could she handle having so much responsibility. She didn't really know the older cat all that well so she couldn't be a sure judge of that.
Turning to Opaleye with a broad grin Riverkit called out, "congratulations Opaleye!"

Dragonmoon chuckled at Opaleye's shock, her tail flicking in amusement. "He's not joking, either, Opaleye." she purred, her blue eyes fixed on the white Warrior.

"Opaleye!" Cheered a bunch of apprentices, Gambitpaw's rough tone and Wildpaw's hearty voice among them. Dawnfrost, trying to hide his doubt - Opaleye was barely older than he was! - joined in.
Opaleye's odd eye glistened with pride as she rose slowly to her paws, hiding a grin at Dragonmoon's statement. Honor made her fur tingle, and she stood straight and proud as she moved to lick the shoulder first of her old mentor Rootpelt, then of Golstar.
"I hope to do what is right by Rootclan." She swore simply, meaning her vow. She knew how much work it was, being a deputy, not just the glorified title it... she wouldn't let her clanmates, and especially Rootpelt and Goldstar, down.
Skyswan, though she could not hear what was going on, could guess from the order of who had spoken. Were they really choosing her sister as deputy? That was huge.

Maplesong felt a momentary pang of disappointment as Opaleye was selected. Well, what did she expect? She was still a young warrior, who had done nothing to distinguish herself....
But neither, it seemed, had Opaleye, or perhaps she hadn't been paying much attention.
"Opaleye!" She cheered, forcing herself to sound happy, with a large grin on her face. "Congratulations, Opaleye!"

Fawnpaw and Blastpaw slipped out of the medicine cat den side-by-side. Fawnpaw had been telling her older brother her own good news...But they came out in time to see Opaleye get her news. Blastpaw noticed his sister looked particularly proud as she cheered Opaleye's name along with the others. The siblings found a place and settled side-by-side in the midst of the group, pelts brushing.

Brindleface walked out of the warriors area in the old oak at the call of their leader adn looked up at him. She saw Braveheart on the other side of camp and quickly padded over to him and sat down listening to what should be heard. ----- Braveheart had been out hunting and had dropped a mouse and a shrew on the fresh-kill pile nodding to his sister when she sat down next to him. Then he started chanting along with the other cats adn his sister. "Opaleye, Opaleye!"

((OOC| To save making a new ceremony thread and having you all gather and cheer over and over, we're going to 'skip time' with this ceremony, because there will be a lot of changes at this point in the Rp ) Goldstar looked down and located Fawnpaw. He smiled encouragingly. "We have some bad news, as well. Sunfeather... seems to have gone missing." He though sadly of his sister, but forced himself to continue. The clan needed to know. "Starclan have spoken to me... and we must move on. I think everyone would agree that Dragonmoon is ready to become a fully fledged medicine cat. Next Half-moon, she will be received by Starclan. A new medicine cat will also join our ranks - Fawnpaw."

Dragonmoon's attention returned to Goldstar as he spoke again, and the colour-point politely dipped her head. It was official now, then... Sunfeather was gone. Hiding her sorrow, the she-cat smiled at the new Apprentice, flicking her ear with her tail.

"Fawnpaw! Yay Fawnpaw!" Blastpaw was the first to start a cheer. He nuzzled his sister affectionately, glad that she'd finally find a place to be happy. Not that he could ever understand choosing plants over battles, but whatever.
Fawnpaw blushed and shuffled her paws, trying to hide the big stupid grin on her face. She couldn't wait to learn from the other medicine cats, though she hoped Sunfeather would come home. Certainly she would have a lot to teach her.
Grayfox padded out of the warrior's den, stretching his legs. He noticed Goldstar on the Highroot, and his own apprentice putting up a cheer. Rolling his eyes in amusement, he found a spot near Blastpaw and looked up at the leader.

Frowning at the news that Sunfeather was missing Riverkit looked down at her paws, she hadn't know the medicine cat well, but she remembered when she had helped her with a belly ache. She had been extremely kind, Riverkit would not forget that, hopefully she would come home.
Angling her ears toward Dragonmoon, she smiled "congragulations Dragonmoon!" Turning her gaze next to Fawnpaw she nodded, "congragulations Fawnpaw!"
All of this change, she couldn't wait until she became an apprentice.

"Well done, you two. Medicine cats!" Finalheart said to her Clanmates. She smiled at Dragonmoon and Fawnpaw. She wondered when she would be given an apprentice, but pushed that thought out of her head. This was the moment to congratulate the new medicine cat and medicine cat apprentice, not sulk about her bad luck. But still, the nagging thought was there.

Dragonmoon smiled at her Clanmates, still hiding her depression. She had to be strong for her Clan, she had to be able to keep them strong. Sunfeather... made the choice to leave, she trained me for this day. she told herself. Still... she couldn't shake the feeling her Mentor knew this would happen...

Echorain glanced over to Dragonmoon, lowering her head slightly and then letting her gaze sweep to Fawnpaw. she smiled slightly, muzzle dipping - acceptance on her features. No joy, not at loosing Sunfeather. But the future could not be denied on behalf of the past. Fawnpaw would be a positive step, Starclan themselves thought so.
Goldstar let the excitement die down, then began to speak again. "Three outside cats have come to Rootclan." He began.
Dawnfrost opened his jaws in a snort. "Outside cats? Kittypets!" He had had a rather negative first encounter with one of the toms.
"Some of you have met Lion, Sunny and Tiger already. Sunny was badly wounded by a swam, and is also expecting kits which are due any day now."
Dawnfrost's jaws parted to say something else, but his sister Silvershine nudged him sharply in the ribs. Her eyes shone with compassion at the mention of kits.
"Opaleye and i have been discussing this - and I have asked the three to stay with Rootclan." Goldstar stated quietly, knowing this announcement would be the most surprising.

She let her eyes wonder the crowd looking for any unfamilar cats, but she couldn't see much over the older cats. She was suprised, yes. But not hostile. The thought of outsiders was exciting, and intriging. Where they different then the clan cats? Or were they the same only with a different style of living? she would ask one of them when ever she got the chance.
Sitting strighter she peered up at Goldstar, then back at the crowd, would any of them object to this?

Blastpaw's eyes widened in surprise. "Cool!" he breathed, looking for Lion among the other Clan cats. He was pretty strong, for a kittypet. Blastpaw hoped he'd get to fight along side him some other time. And Tiger was about the biggest cat he'd ever seen!
"Pah, kittypet's don't belong in RootClan." Grayfox growled under his breath. What would become of the Clan if they started letting kittypets join?
Fawnpaw glanced at her brother, still glowing with happiness at her Clanmate's praise. "Do you know the kittypets already?"
