Wolverineclaw was hunting, stalking a young rabbit expertly through the long tussocks of grass. Whenever it glanced up from nibbling green shoots he froze completely, moving only when he resumed eating.
But then the rabbit bolted without warning. Cursing, the stocky red tom shot after it, making a huge leap and snatching it between his forepaws, aiming a blow to stun it at its head.
His spine prickled with some sixth sense's warning of danger. A moment later he heard the sound of barking, and he hissed reflexively - dogs were the friend of no city cat.
To his horror he heard the the rattle of chain-link fence as something large pushed through one of the gaps. He boldly sprang onto the nearest rock and yowled loudly. "Moonsguards! Dogs!" He bellowed, and his words ended in a flurry of barking as the canines heard him as well. He could see one coming, a huge black and grey brute around three times his size.

Dawnbreak had been out doing her own hunting when she heard Wolverineclaw's bellow, and heard the dogs start barking. Ears flicking up, the tortie she-cat launched herself from the pipe she'd been sitting on, racing to the other Moonguard's aid. In a flash, she was on the rock beside him, pelt bristled and hackles risen. "Stupid twolegs, you'd think they could keep the mutts under control!"

Wolverineclaw stayed where he was, resenting a united front as the dog came tearing towards them. There was a baffled expression as it drew near, as if it couldn't figure out why the two cats were running from him.
Wolverineclaw heard more barking behind the lead dog and gritted his teeth. "More than one." He warning grimly to Dawnbreak. "I don't think these dogs are Twolegs run."
Without warning he launched himself at the canine, but tucked his brawny body and landed short, leaving the dog snapping clumsily at empty air. A moment later Wolverineclaw slashed at its muzzle, direct and accurate.
A short distance from the abandoned apartment's perimeter, Silverstar led her patrol. Her ears shot up in alarm at the sound of the barking. "Dogs! Dogs in the Moonstone - Crowclan, swiftly now!" She yowled, and without hesitation she plunged towards the nearer of the two gaps in the fence. She could hear rattling from further down where she guessed a dog was pushing through, and spotted Dawnbreak's silhouette up on the rock, then that of the canine below.

Dawnbreak's ears flattened, her pelt bristled and tail lashing, "Don't get nicked.". Crouching down so her bellyfur touched the rock, she sprung, aiming for gaining height rather than distance. It was the type of leap a kit would make while pouncing on a close ball of moss, simply more perfected, accurate. TunnelClan cat at heart, the tortie she-cat's agility launched her into the air, her body twisting, aiming to land on the shoulders of the dog below her.
Squirrelpaw had been sticking her nose practically everywhere on their journey, either behind or slightly ahead of the patrol. She was behind them, sniffing at a left behind newspaper when Silverstar yowled. The ginger apprentice jumped, ears perking before she whirled and followed after her leader.

At her leader's command Secondsight bolted after Silverstar without hesitation. It was a good thing she had decided to tag along on this patrol, after all. They'd need all the help they could get against a group of dogs. Slipping through the gap in the fence and leaving a tuft of chocolate fur behind. She threw herself into the fray, slashing at the dog with quick strikes before leaping back out of the way.

Zephyrfoot always seemed to manage to be too far away from events when they first happened, likely due to his habit of running too fast and thus getting too far. He heard the faint bray of the dogs, first, and only heard the yowl of fellow cats - both fellow Moonguards and fellow Crowclan cats - after he had begun to run toward the sounds.
He made it there faster than he should have, thank Starclan. He felt his paws tingle and it urged him forward even faster, and the swift tom was soon in the middle of the fight. His methods were like entirely Crowclan at heart - opportunistic and clever. He darted between and under the paws of the dog snapping at the other Moonguards, hoping to trip the brute up.

Elmshade's fur rose and the dark tabby hissed and spat, bounding quickly after Silverstar. Dogs in the Moonstone.
They would not defile it, this most sacred of places. She growled mentally. However, she still could not shake off the tingle of fear as she flung herself at one of the massive beasts' legs, aiming to make it fall.
Her fear increased as she saw the other dogs. StarClan, there was no way they could stand up against so many.

The biggest dog went flying, snapping vainly at the nearest cats and shredding the very tip of Wolverineclaw's tail that he didn't yank back in time. More barking announced the arrival of a second dog - smaller, terrier sized. Immediately Wolverineclaw, familiar with the ways of dogs, went straight for it, darted aside at the last second, and raked his claws along its side. "Split them up! Draw this one off, they're a pack!" He snarled, his words barely recognizable with his lips drawn back and his teeth showing.

Dawnbreak sunk her claws into the broad shoulders of the biggest dog, her hindpaws racking their claws down it's back. "Stupid mutt!" she spat, hanging on as tightly as she could, her tortie banded pelt bristled.
Squirrelpaw raced for the smaller dog, swiping a few times at it's nose before jumping back. "Here, Mongrel, Mongrel, mongrel!" she taunted, waving her tail.

Secondsight put herself between the larger dog and the smaller one, arching her back and hissing angrily. It was distracted by Dawnbreak on its back, so Secondsight slipped underneath the beast, snapping at its legs and slashing at its belly fur.

The bigger dog went after Secondsight, snarling and shaking itself, slowed down by Dawnbreak clinging like a burr to its side. Blood was starting to splatter the ground below.
The smaller dog, confronted by a hissing, ferociously looking red tom and with a small swift cat darting around him, made a beeline for the easier target - Squirrelpaw. Wolverineclaw snarled and gave pursuit as it bolted after her. "Head for the fence! Climb it!"

Dawnbreak lost her grip as the big dog shook itself, falling heavily on her side without enough time to twist and land on her paws. Scrambling upright, she lashed out at the dog's hind legs, trying to distract it.
Squirrelpaw froze as the dog came straight for her, before taking Wolverineclaw's advice and bolting for the fence. The ginger apprentice glanced back, quickening her pace as the little dog snapped at her paws.

Secondsight felt the dog's hot breath on her and twisted out of the way, rolling clumsily out from under it. She stood up quickly, shaking dust from her chocolate coat with a growl. Gathering her courage, the CrowClan warrior leaped at the dog's face, poised to latch on and stay there. A dangerous move, sure, but Secondsight was ready to risk it.

"Faster, faster!" Roared Wolverineclaw from behind, the smaller dog was quickly outdistancing him even as he lashed his claws for the terrier's ankles. "Faster would be better! Climb!" Panting, he started to fall further behind.
Silverstar co-ordinated with Secondsight, leaping for the larger dog's shoulders. Primeheart aimed a lash at its chest, trying to give Secondsight the window to cling on, but was a moment too slow in dodging and felt the canine's teeth graze his shoulder. Snarling, he fell back, dripping blood, then renewed his attack on the dog's haunches. With Siverstar now clinging on as well, the larger dog was starting to slow.

Squirrelpaw took Wolverineclaw's orders to heart, paws flying as she raced to the fence. Panting heavily, the ginger apprentice leapt, paws hooking into the mesh fence. She started to scramble up the fence, but barely got her forepaw in a new hole before she felt the dog's jaws close around her hindpaw - which she'd pulled free to take a step up. Pain shot up her leg, and she clung desperately to the fence, trying not to be pulled down by the terrier.
Dawnbreak watched the CrowClan cats working together, cursing silently at Secondsight's move. Silly. The ginger banded she-cat waited a moment, before leaping, trying to latch onto the dog's hind quarters.

Thanks to Silverstar's distraction, Secondsight managed to sink her claws into the dog's cheeks and forehead, pulling her tail up to keep it out of the reach of the dog's teeth. She scrabbled at its eyes, trying to blind it, but a moment later was flung off when it gave a violent shake of its head. The chocolate warrior slammed into the ground and stayed there for a bit, winded. Gritting her teeth, she climbed to her paws again and went for the dog again, clawing at its flanks with a savage snarl.

Elmshade, seeing that Squirrelpaw was in trouble, abandoned her attack on the bigger dog and raced towards the dog. She flung herself at its back, hoping to catch it by surprise and make it release its hold on Squirrelpaw.

Wolverineclaw bounded after the terrier, growling, and swiped his powerful claws at the dogs ankles. Coupled with Elmshade's attack, the smaller dog yipped and released its grip upon Squirrelpaw. Wolverineclaw faced the terrier, which was cowering slightly by this point, edging around to Elmshade so they presented a united front.
The larger dog seemed to have had almost enough as well. It was backing off from the main body of attacking cats, though kept up a snarl as he attempted to shake off Secondsight.

With her paw free, the ginger apprentice scrambled further up the fence, wincing.
Dawnbreak watched the dog back off, tilting her head for a moment. Glancing around to be sure all the others were okay, she stalked forward, following the bigger dog, waiting for Secondsight to realise that it had given up and let it go.

Secondsight backed off as well, never letting her gaze leave the dog. Her lips were still pulled back in a snarl, warning it to run away now or she'd make it go away.
