Longpaw liked the small pool, with its cheerful bubbling sound and the undergrowth growing thick and sheltered around, proviing a spot out of the incessant wind. Besides, it wasn't too far from camp, close enough that a bold apprentice without a mentor and an adventurous kit could slip there and back and not be noticed.

He hoped!

"Yeah, I like to hang out here." He told Sootkit. He remembered something he'd heard one of the other apprentices say. "Sometimes you get rabbits come here to drink to and you can surprise them"

Feeling sneaky and sly she crawled around on her belly, casting glances back the way they had come. Haha, they had snuck away with no problems. Snickering to herself she moved toward the small pool, using her paw to prob the cool surface. It ripped under her paw, and she giggled, repeating the guesture.

"I like this place to, the waters so.... wiggly," she mewed. ears angling back she glanced around again, finally pushing herself up to sit striaght. "Rabbits! Oh, I tasted rabbit once it was so good! It's my favorite, way better then mouse!"

Turning to Longpaw she wiggled her furry brows, "I shall catch all the rabbits in the world one day! And eat em' all!" she declared passionatly. "Well, I'll share with you, and my mama and papa," she added hastily. Pawing at the water again, she turned her bright gaze on the apprentice, "do you think I could walk on water?"

He grinned, watching her creep along with a fairly good stalking position. A little rough around the edges, but she wasn't an apprentice yet. "You've got quite a good crouch." He complimented, then laughed at her bold words. "Well thanks, but what are you going to do when there's no more rabbits left because you caught them all? You won't be able to eat your favourite then!" He pointed out with a grin.

She grinned under his praise puffing out her chest with importance, but she quickly deflated when mentioned not being able to eat her favorite any more. Tilting her head she pouted, "well.... your right.... fine I'll catch them one at a time..."

Not put down for long she whilred toward him, crouching playfully. Letting out a loud laugh she lunged, not giving him time to wonder what she was doing. "Haha! Take this!"

"That sounds like more of a-" Longpaw was cut off when she barreled into him, knocking him backwards - she was fast! Laughing, he splashed backwards into the little pool, feeling the cold water soak into his sandy fur. "Oh yeah? Yeah, you thin you're funny, huh?" He swiftly reached a forepaw for her leg to yank sharply, aiming to haul her into the water beside him.

Falling into the pool next to him, Sootkit shrieked. Her short fur soaked now she rolled around the pool, she laughed, splashing Longpaw.

"Yep I'm loads of funny!" she meowed as she pushed ot her paws, dancing out of the pool to grin at him. Wiggling her furry brows she once again lunged at him, her lusty laugh following behind her.

She hadn't had this much fun in awhile! Longpaw sure was fun that was for sure.

No sooner had Longpaw gotten all four of his paws on the bank again, just in the motion of stepping away, Sootkit was flinging herself at him yet again. With a yelp he tumbled, dangerously close to rolling back into the water, trying to get the younger cat in a headlock and laughing.

[Halftail]

Easily detained Sootkit glanced up to laugh with him, squeezing out of his grip. "Okay, okay! You win, I give up," she meowed, although there was a look in her eyes that said she might try again later. Sinking back on her haunches she twisted to groom her wet pelt, her eyes still sparkling.

"That was fun!" she said strightening, "hey Longpaw? When are you going to be a warrior? Realy soon I bet! I wonder what your name'll be! Maybe it'll Longfoot, or Longface!"

She paused realizing what she said could be taken as insulting. "Not that your feet or your face are long! I mean your feet are perfect and her face is bueatiful!" she meowed quickly before falling into an uncomforable silence, her fur prickling with embarressment. She did think he was cute but friend wise, nothing serious. It was however emmbarresing to have your new friend know you thought he was cute.

Longpaw let her go and sat down in the grass beside the pool, beginning to wash his silvery-sand shaded fur clean with quick licks. When she mentioned possible warrior names he made a face. "Don't you ever mention the names Longfoot or Longface in front of Bronzestar." He snorted in amusement. He shook his head slightly. "I have moons of training to go yet. I've only just started." He didn't mind her thinking otherwise though. He was a fairly sturdy cat, like many who were Rootclan born, and he was tall for his age.

As an older kit he'd been used to his suave brother Gambitkit getting all the female attention, and so he grinned to hear she thought he was cute, preening a little self-consciously.

Relaxing she sat back next to him, staring up at the sky as he talked, "I won't suggest those names if you promise never to suggest Sootfoot, or Sootash!" she meowed playfully. "Really, I thought you were like close to becoming a warrior... well, doesn't matter, you'll make a great fighter! But you'll never bet me at hunting!" she boasted.

Nudging him playfully she chuckled softly.

Longpaw barked with laughter. "Sootfoot! But that's so great, it even rhymes!" He chortled, giving her a nudge in return. "That'd be a great name for you, I love it!" He grinned teasingly.

[Halftail]

"Haha!" Sootkit meowed sarcasticly, but there was a twinkle in her eyes that told she didn't mind. Swishing her thin tail she stared out across the small pool to the world beyond, her ears angled forward. Suddenly egar to get started.

"Hey Longpaw...." she paused glancing over at him with a grin, "will you teach me what you know about hunting? Or fighting?"

Longpaw was only too happy to spend a little time with her. His plumy tail waved lightly and he nodded. "Sure, why not? I bet when you get a mentor, you'll surprise them with everything you know!" He laughed. "Where do you want to start?"

[Halftail]

"Yeah! and maybe then I can skip being an apprenitce! Wouldn't that be so cool!" she meowed excitingly spining around. Coming to a dizzy stop she sat down heavily, swaying from side to side as she answered.

"I think I wanna start with hunting!"

Grinning widly she crouched down stalking forward in a lopsided motion, "see I'm already the best!"

Longpaw started to laugh. "I can see it now!" He said, eyes twinkling. "You talking to Bronzestar... telling him you know how to hunt so you can skip being an apprentice and go right to warrior! Let me know how that goes!" He grinned widely. It was a lot of fun hanging out with Sootkit, she was so spunky!

He crouched down in front of her. "Keep your weight more centered, like this. And stop rushing when you stalk because when you disturb the grass you scare the prey." He instructed.

[Halftail]

Still grinning she came to a halt, watching him through excited eyes as he crouched. Her's did feel a little off. Biting down on her lip she consentrated on mimiking Longpaw, her form unsteady as she crouched once more.

Her gray blue eyes glancing up at him, "is this okay?"

"Better. Step even more lightly though." He suggested, setting his own creamy paws down soundlessly. He began to creep up on a set of berry bushes. There were still some frozen berries upon them. "Let's see if we can find something for real!"

[Halftail]

Step more lightly, bitting softly down on her tounge she stakled forward once again, wincing when her paw cracked a twig. "I think I'll have to work on it," she meowed uncertainly. It was harder then she had thought it would be.

Sitting up ears perked she grinned, "really! You mean go out to find real prey?" She chuckled, almost evily, "won't the warriors flip if I came back with my own caught prey!"

He flicked her shoulder with his fluffy tail to get her attention and caution her. "You probably won't catch anything, very few apprentices do the first time. And don't worry, practice is why we stay as an apprentice for six moons!"

He gestured for her to follow, and went creeping around patches of shrubbery. "Listen carefully - rustling noises, then scent them out." He whispered quietly.

[Halftail]

Sootkit nodded seriously, her eyes determined yet still they held there playful glint. "I'll pratice real hard!"

Creeping after her friend she stepped as quietly as she could manage, her face twisted in concentration, her tail swishing silently above the ground. She nodded her head at his advice, sniffing the air as the moved forward, her ears angled forward.
