Mercurystone slid sideways. Now he was hanging by his claws upsidedown, like a sloth. He could feel his claws slipping and he swore.
Two minutes later her slipped off completely. His head turned instictively and with it, his body, untill he was right side up. He landed hard on the ground, on his feet, and the landing sent shock waved running up his legs. "Ooff." he grunted, shaking his paws. "You were going to leave me up there!?" he asked, angry.

Nightdancer laughed a little and left her position, quickly making her way down the tree and quickly to Mercurystone. "At least you didn't break anything." The calico warrior would probably have felt pretty guilty if he did break something though.

He forced his fur to lay flat, but his eyes narrowed angrilly. "So, you WERE going to just leave me up there!" he hissed.
He considered pretending to have shattered his legs, maybe it would be funny to see her reaction. Mercurystone shook his head. Nah... that would be childish... and stupid. Funny though...

Nightdancer narrowed her eyes slightly, "Well, if you hadn't been silly enough to get up there in the first place, you wouldn't have even gotten close to falling off!" She breathed a heavy sigh, "Sheesh, we're both so tempered today." The calico she-cat considered trying to make up and become friends but Mercurystone didn't seem to be interested in that.

"Tempered? I'm not tempered, you are." Mercurystone hissed through clenced teeth. It was taking all he had to stay semi-calm. "And besides, if you hadn't climbed the tree in the first place, I wouldn't have followed you and gotten stuck!" he meowed. He knew that last part sounded stupid, and he didn't know why he had said it, but he could't take back what he had said...
He glared at her, trying to stare her down.

Nightdancer just laughed. "Oh really? Who was the one getting irritated because I asked questions? And who said you had to climb the tree if I climbed it?" For some weird reason, she was actually enjoying this. She had something like a smirk on her face and she was clearly not troubled at all by Mercurystone's attempt to stare her down.

Mercurystone crouched, looking ready to leap at her, but then sat up. He made his eyes blank and his fur flat. "This arguing is quite childish." he meowed quietly.

Nightdancer had frowned when Mercurystone crouched and she had tensed. When he sat up, she relaxed but her gaze was still suspicious. She paused for a moment after he spoke. Nightdancer too, had to admit that he was right. "I guess so. Maybe we should just start over. We can't keep arguing forever."

The black smoke cat lowered his head a little, his eyes a bit dark, but then looked up with a forced smile. "Err... sure." he meowed. "I know who you are, and you know who I am. There. End of introduction." Mercurystone meowed, wrapping his tail around his paws. "So, what were you doing here anyway?" he asked, not that he cared. He just wanted to know why she had walked by at the exact moment he clawed the apple.

Nightdancer thought over the answer to his question. "I wasn't really doing anything. I just walked past. Coincedence." She didn't mention how this was a pretty common thing for her to do, now that her sister was no longer alive and she didn't have anyone to talk to.

Well, it had been a bad coincidence. Stupid she-cat! Why had she had to walk by at THAT moment!? Why couldn't she have walked past when he was sitting atop a rock, brooding, and looking cool at least. But no. It HAD to be the apple. He glared down at it. "Well, why wern't you doing anything useful, like patrol or hunting, huh?" he meowed bossily.

Nightdancer chuckled, "Well, I have already done my duties. I have done patrol, I have hunted. And so, I must be entitled to some type of privacy and time to myself." She smirked cheekily as she continued, "And how can you criticize me, Mercurystone? Why weren't you doing anything useful?"

Mercurystone snorted. "Time to yourself? So that's why your here bugging me?" he meowed, rolling his eyes. "And I was doing something useful! I was practicing my battle moves!" he lied, looking her straightin the eyes.

Nightdancer purred in amusement, "Do you actually expect me to believe that mousedung you're trying to feed me?" When the first question registered, her eyes narrowed and her expression turned into something more hostile and her voice gained acid,"Well, when did I say that time to myself was a good time? For me, it's terrible, it's painful. Occasionally, I might need someone to divert my attention!" She hadn't intended to raise her voice but she did.

Mercurystone hissed through his teeth. Lately, he'd been betraying his anger a bit too much. Gosh, Nightdancer sure knew how to press his buttons. He struggled to maintain a look of calm, cold indifference. "And why is that?" he snarled, his teeth clenched as he tryed to smooth his bristled fur. "And have you EVER thought, that this time alone is my ONLY time I have to unwind after a stressful day?" he snarled, on the verge of losing it altogether.

Nightdancer spat through her teeth, "My sister is dead." Then, she started calming down, and did not comment on Mercurystone's outbursts. It seems that we both have problems. Slowly, slowly she took even deep breaths and she returned to her previous calm and composed state.

Mercurystone blinked and his ears dropped a bit. He felt a little sad, yes, although he found it hard to emphises, having been an only child and hating all the young cats who grew up with him. And yet... he felt he had to one-up her. "Both my parents are dead, and all four of my surrogates are as well." he meowed, although his face betrayed that he rather liked the fact that the queens who raised him were dead... he showed no other sign of emotion, after all, he'd never really known his parents anyway, so he felt no grief for them.

Nightdancer listened and then nodded, "So we are both alone in this world." She could not imagine what it must have been like to be raised by others, knowing that they were not your parents. Nightdancer studied his facial expression intensely - it was not quite what she was expecting when one spoke of the dead but she kept quiet. She missed her sister deeply, but it hurt her when she remembered that she was dead so she would be saved from death. It was a like a trade - at a horrible price.

Mercurystone shrugged. "Sometimes I wish I could really be alone in the world. I mean, all by myself, just me. Everyone gone." he meowed, his voice much like a robot's. "Sometime's I can't stand it. I patrol. I hunt. I work my tail off for cats who don't appreciate any of it. I work for them and I've never spoken a word to them in my life." he meowed, his voice becoming emotional for less than a second before he cleared his throat and went on in his previous robot voice. "have you ever thought about it? It's the same day after day. We work and work... but what do we get to show for it? Nothing." he monotoned.

Nightdancer cocked her head as she thought over Mercurystone's words. "I guess you don't really get it. Life isn't about getting others to thank you for what you've done. Life is for doing your best, feeling good, and living most of all." She smiled a little. "We work so maybe the generations after us can live. And if you don't think you're being noticed, you are now." Nightdancer's voice had some warmth in it now, "If you feel that someone has to appreciate your efforts, I do. I am very happy with the world I live in. Maybe not happy with it fully, but I do my best to appreciate the world my sister traded her life to give to me."
